Dumbledore's death is foreshadowed at the beginning of the Half-Blood Prince. This is where he appears with a burnt and blackened hand, the result of him destroying Marvolo Gaunt's ring that was serving as one of Voldemort's Horcruxes. Dumbledore is saved from death due to his own "prodigious skill" and the intervention of Hogwart's DADA teacher, Severus Snape.
Harry repeatedly warns Dumbledore that Draco Malfoy, is working for Voldemort. Dumbledore won't take any action against Draco, and tells Harry that he already knows more about what Draco is doing than Harry does. Draco tries to kill Dumbledore two times during the school year. On each attempt a student is hurt instead. The first time involves a cursed necklace and the second time involves a bottle of poisoned mead. Both times Harry tells Dumbledore that Draco is responsible.
Draco Malfoy's main plan involves a magical cabinet already inside Hogwarts school to get Death Eaters into the castle. The Death Eaters enter the school while Dumbledore and Harry are attempting to find and destroy another Horcrux. Dumbledore is weakened during that attempt. When returning to Hogwarts, Dumbledore and Harry are distracted by the Dark Mark over the school, giving Draco time to disarm Dumbledore. It seems that Dumbledore knew of or foresaw the attack, as he uses the split second of time before he is attacked to immobilize Harry, who becomes a silent and invisible witness to his death. While talking to Malfoy, Dumbledore reveals that he knew it was him behind the two attempts to murder him, but recognizes Draco's situation. Draco it seems cannot kill Dumbledore, so Snape is obliged to use the Avada Kedavra curse on him.
Albus Dumbledore's portrait appears in the current Headmistress's office. He hangs there alongside the other former Headmasters and Headmistresses of Hogwarts School.
On August 2, 2006, J.K.R. confirmed that Dumbledore is, in fact, dead and that we should not expect him to "pull a Gandalf'. His views on death began to appear as early as the first book. Where he says that "death is but the next great adventure." In the book Order of the Phoenix, there is the following conversation with Voldemort: "There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!" snarled Voldemort. "You are quite wrong," said Dumbledore....
It is so not fair!
Post here how you feel about his death!
