The Dragons
The golden egg was the objective of task one. To get it you had to retrieve the egg from a nest guarded by a dragon. This was to test how the champions functioned under pressure. They were not to know of the task before it started. They were graded by the five judges on a scale of one to ten.
They all had different kinds of dragons. They drew lots to decide which dragon they would face. Cedric Diggory got the Swedish Short-Snout, Fleur Delacour got the Common Welsh Green, Viktor Krum got the Chinese Fireball, and Harry Potter got the Hungarian Horntail.
Cedric transfigured a rock into a dog to create a distraction. Fleur attempted to put her dragon in a trance. Viktor used a conjunctivitis charm to incapacitate his, but the dragon damaged her other eggs which lost him points. Harry used a summoning spell to summon his broom. This made the dragon chase him and leave the nest. All four champions succeeded in getting their golden eggs.
